Parent and Community Organization (PCO)

The Felta Education Foundation supports the Parent and Community Organization which offers all of the school-wide activities throughout the school year. Each event described here is designed to allow students an opportunity to take part in spirit activities aimed at enhancing school cohesiveness, pride and social development.

Events and Activities

September

First Day of School - Welcome Coffee: Beginning at 8:00am, parents are welcomed with open arms to an informal setting with coffee, fresh fruit, and baked goods. They are encouraged to participate in our organization and classrooms throughout the year.  Sign-Ups for Escrip and Room Parent candidates are also available.

Back to School Potluck: This event is always held in September as a Welcome Back to School Dinner. All family members are welcome. This event is sponsored and funded entirely by PCO/Felta Education Foundation. What a wonderful way to start the year.

October

Harvest Festival-Halloween Costumes: The Garden Teacher, Mrs. Phipps, is known for her imaginative crafts and fun during the Harvest Festivals. The students use as many school garden products and natural items as possible for the various crafts such as clay bowls, corn husk broomsticks, and fairy flower decorations. Coupled with this, the children wear Halloween costumes on that special day to make it an even more memorable event!

December

Winter Program: Our Winter Program is one of the most beautiful events of the year. It is held at the Raven Theater in Healdsburg. The children prepare by creating backdrops and learning new songs.  All grades are featured from the innocence of Kindergarten to the more experienced sixth graders; it is an exciting evening. Be sure to arrive early to get a seat!  Following the program, refreshments baked by the students will be served in the lobby.

Springtime

Dia del Niño: “Day of the Child”, what a wonderful celebration for our school community! All children deserve a day to feel special and respected. Our celebration includes colorful posters and events such as Potato Sack Races, Face Painting, Rooster Hop, Piñatas, and authentic foods prepared by the families.

Art Exhibit: Parents, family, and the community at large are encouraged to attend this wonderful achievement presented in Felta Hall. We believe that learning and studying in different mediums brings out the artistic talent in all of our students.

June

Jog-A-Thon: We strive to teach our children that physical fitness is a part of life.  The students are acknowledged for their hard work be it jogging, walking or running. The children are encouraged to complete as many laps as possible in a set amount of time. They are also rewarded simply for participation with a unique certificate. It is a wonderful way to spend one of the last days of school when energies are at peak levels.

Through-out the Year

Assemblies: Our wonderful parent volunteers arrange for approximately 8 assemblies each school year. They are varied and always interactive. Past assemblies have included such events as exotic cats from Occidental to Chinese acrobats. The assembly is repeated the same day with the morning assembly for kindergarten through second grade and the afternoon for third through sixth grade. These smaller groups allow the children to receive maximum exposure and learning from each assembly.
